Terms of Service

Last updated: 12 July 2026 · Operated by Keymate (mykeymate.com)

1. What Keymate is

Keymate is a platform that helps people find rooms, apartments and compatible roommates. We are a venue for listings and introductions — we are not a landlord, letting agent, or party to any tenancy agreement between members.

2. Who can use it

You must be 18 or older and able to enter a legally binding agreement. You agree to provide accurate information.

3. Listings & conduct

  • Listings must be real, accurate, and for places you're entitled to advertise.
  • No discrimination contrary to the Equal Status Acts, no harassment, no scams.
  • Never request or send a deposit before an in-person viewing.
  • Keep communication and payments inside Keymate where possible.

4. Fees

Browsing and messaging are free during launch. Any future paid features (e.g. boosted listings) will be shown clearly before you pay.

5. Liability

Keymate does not verify the identity of members or check listings, and is not a party to any agreement between members. We cannot guarantee any listing, person or tenancy and are not responsible for any agreement, payment or loss. You are responsible for your own viewings, contracts and payments — always meet in person and never pay before you have seen the room. Keymate is provided "as is" to the extent permitted by Irish law.

6. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.

7. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the Irish courts.

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 12 July 2026 · Data controller: Keymate

What we collect

  • Account data — name, email, age, nationality, password.
  • Profile & lifestyle — budget, city, habits and preferences you enter for matching.
  • Verification — ID document check (processed by a verification partner; we store only the result).
  • Usage — pages viewed, searches, messages, device and approximate location.

Why we use it

To run the service, match you with compatible rooms and people, keep the community safe, and improve Keymate. We rely on your consent and our legitimate interest in providing the platform.

Who we share it with

Only with service providers who help us operate (hosting, email, payments). We never sell your personal data. Your contact details stay masked from other members until you choose to share them.

How long we keep it

For as long as your account is active, and a limited period afterwards as required by law. You can delete your account and data at any time.

What we use

  • Essential — sign-in, security and basic functionality. Always on.
  • Preferences — remember your theme, city and filters.
  • Analytics — anonymous usage stats to improve the product (only with your consent).
  • Maps — off until you ask for them. See below.

Maps & third parties

Where we show a map, it is served by OpenStreetMap/CARTO (map tiles) and unpkg.com (the Leaflet map library). Loading a map means your browser connects to those services directly, which shares your IP address and browser details with them — we can't see or control what they log.

Because of that, maps do not load on their own. You'll see a placeholder with a Load map button, and nothing is requested from those services until you press it. Your choice is remembered on your own device only; clearing your browser's site data for Keymate turns maps off again.

Your choice

On your first visit you can accept or reject non-essential cookies, and change your choice anytime in settings. We don't use advertising trackers.

Community guidelines

The house rules that keep Keymate safe for everyone

Keymate only works if people trust each other. By using it you agree to:

✅ Do

  • Be honest — real name, real photos, real listings.
  • Reply respectfully, even when it's not a match.
  • View a place in person (or on a live video call) before paying anything.
  • Report anything that feels off — we act on every report.

🚫 Don't

  • No scams. Never ask for or send a deposit before a viewing.
  • No discrimination. Rejecting someone based on race, religion, gender, sexuality, disability or family status breaks Irish equality law and our rules.
  • No harassment, hate speech, or sharing others' private details.
  • No fake or duplicate listings, and no advertising places you can't rent.
  • No taking contact off-platform just to dodge our safety tools.

What happens if you break the rules

Depending on severity: a warning, listing removal, or a permanent ban. Serious cases (fraud) are reported to An Garda Síochána.

By continuing to use Keymate you confirm you've read and accept these guidelines.

GDPR & your rights

Under EU/Irish data protection law

As Keymate operates in Ireland, you have full rights under the GDPR:

  • Access — get a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — correct anything inaccurate.
  • Erasure — delete your account and data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Portability — export your data in a common format.
  • Object / restrict — limit how we process your data.
  • Withdraw consent — at any time, without affecting past processing.

How to exercise them

Email privacy@mykeymate.com — we respond within 30 days. If you're unhappy, you can complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).
